Saturday Night Live Mocks Bloomberg Over Occupy Wall Street Response

Saturday Night Live laid into New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg over his administration's response to the Occupy Wall Street protests.

Fred Armisen opened the show as the billionaire mayor welcoming the protestors to the city:

"With all due respect to Chicago, Los Angeles, and London, if you're looking to vent your rage at a system where the richest 1 percent controls 40 percent of the planet's wealth, there is no better time or place than autumn in New York. And why not cap off a day of protest with dinner at one of New York's many world class restaurants. Or take in a Broadway show like Mary Poppins — currently playing at the New Amsterdam theater."

'Bloomberg' defended his decision to power wash Zuccotti park:

"As all New Yorkers know, various parts of the city are routinely power washed. Power washing is a New York institution, and without it, the Big Apple would lose its reputation as the cleanest and most thoroughly sanitized city. With streets — as the saying goes — you can eat off."

Ecuador Invaded New Jersey Last Night And Handed The U.S. Soccer Team Another Loss

The next World Cup is three years away, but the international soccer schedule is still filled with big time qualifiers and friendlies.

These games aren't important enough to garner mainstream attention.

So do they bring out the same pageantry and passion we see every four years at the World Cup?

The United States played Ecuador in a friendly last night outside Newark, New Jersey.

We went to the game to see how deep the passion ran.

What we found was a ton of American and Ecuadorian diehards who treated the game like any big international match.

Brazillian soccer player Ronaldinho continued his resurgence by scoring a perfectly placed free kick in a friendly against Mexico last night.

The goal tied up the game, and Brazil went on to win 2-1 with a Marcelo goal five minutes later.

Here's the video (with an awesomely long "GOLLLLLAAAAZOOO" from the announcer):

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Your ears did not deceive you, football fans. Ron Jaworski just dropped an s-bomb on live television. Check it out.

"Shit, you have to get rid of this ball just a split second quicker."

Don't worry, Jaws. Monday Night Football is only the most watched show on all of cable television. I'm sure no one saw it.

Carlson Tucker isn't the only one wearing a bow tie these days.

The men's accessory has been slowly creeping back into popular use, and it made a strong showing at last night's Fashion's Night Out.

As the hippest and trendiest put on their finest to parade in the streets at night many interesting bow ties (and bow tie wearers) could be seen.

Here are a few we saw around SoHo.

Nyjer Morgan Referred To Albert Pujols As A Girl Last Night

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Nyjer Morgan, the Brewers centerfielder, struck out against the Cardinals last night and promptly threw his tobacco wad toward the pitching mound.

The benches cleared and Albert Pujols sprinted from first base to confront Morgan.

Rather than retaliate in person, Morgan addressed his displeasure via Twitter:

“Alberta couldn’t see Plush if she had her gloves on!!! Was was she thinking running afta Plush!!! She never been n tha ring!!!”

Yes, Morgan did refer to Pujols as “Alberta” and “she” – twice. And, yes, Morgan also referred to himself as “Plush”. As in, “Tony Plush” – his self-appointed “gentleman’s name.”

Unfortunately, last night was the last scheduled game between the Brewers and Cardinals. We can only hope St. Louis makes a dramatic comeback to force a one-game playoff.

Obama Requests Joint Session Of Congress To Present Jobs Plan; Same Night As GOP Debate

President Barack Obama sent a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid requesting a Joint Session of Congress on September 7th at 8pm to present his economic growth plan to the nation.

Obama writes that it is his intention "to lay out a series of bipartisan proposals that the Congress can take immediately to continue to rebuild the American economy by strengthening small businesses, helping Americans get back to work, and putting more money in the paychecks of the Middle Class and working Americans, while still reducing our deficit and getting our fiscal house in order."

Obama's announcement conflicts with a long-scheduled debate between the Republican presidential candidates at the Reagan Library sponsored by NBC and POLITICO.

Asked whether the White House chose the date to coincide with the GOP presidential debate, White House Press Secretary said "No, of course not."

Carney added that the primary focus of the speech will be "the immediate need for job creation," but added that Obama would also discuss deficit reduction and the growing federal debt.

House and Senate lawmakers must pass a "concurrent resolution" authorizing the joint session of Congress — a procedural formality.

Obama's letter:

Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. Leader:)
Our Nation faces unprecedented economic challenges, and millions of hardworking Americans continue to look for jobs. As I have traveled across our country this summer and spoken with our fellow Americans, I have heard a consistent message: Washington needs to put aside politics and start making decisions based on what is best for our country and not what is best for each of our parties in order to grow the economy and create jobs. We must answer this call.

Therefore, I respectfully request the opportunity to address a Joint Session of Congress on September 7, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. It is my intention to lay out a series of bipartisan proposals that the Congress can take immediately to continue to rebuild the American economy by strengthening small businesses, helping Americans get back to work, and putting more money in the paychecks of the Middle Class and working Americans, while still reducing our deficit and getting our fiscal house in order. It is our responsibility to find bipartisan solutions to help grow our economy, and if we are willing to put country before party, I am confident we can do just that.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
