Rogue Traders: Just Be Glad You Don't Live In China

The accused UBS rogue trader Kweku Abodoli should be thankful he doesn't live in China.

Abodoli was arrested Thursday by London police for causing the embattled Swiss bank to lose $2 billion because of his unauthorized trades.

Past instances involving rogue traders in the U.K. suggest the worst possible scenarios will be he'll likely face prison time like rogue trader from Barings Nick Leeson.

Leeson, however, was imprisoned in Singapore.

The other scenario is he could also possibly be banned from the industry by the Financial Services Authority just like rogue trader Jonathan Bunn (Download PDF).

So yes in a since his life is ruined, but at least he has a life.

A Chinese rogue securities trader wasn't so lucky.

Yang Yanming, a rogue securities trader, was executed in 2009 after embezzling 65 million yuan ($9.52 million) and taking the secret of the whereabouts of the misappropriated funds to his grave. 

He was the first finance executive in the securities industry to be executed in China.

Bachmann Goes Rogue, Will Offer Rebuttal To Obama's Jobs Address

  x You have successfully emailed the post. Despite the Republican leadership's decision to allow President Barack Obama's jobs speech to stand on its own, Rep. Michele Bachmann will provide her own response to the address.

Fox News' Chad Pergram tweets: "Bachmann to speak after POTUS tonight with her own presser at 8:30 pm ET on Capitol Hill."

After a dismal performance GOP debate, Bachmann will try to refocus her campaign around attacking Obama's leadership of the economy.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer revealed that Obama's plan will be called "The American Jobs Act." The president will address a Joint Session of Congress at 7 p.m. 

Bachmann also gave her own response to Obama's State of the Union address in January after the official GOP response, and infamously failed to look in the camera broadcasting her speech on live television. Her office said she was looking at the camera streaming her remarks on the "Tea Party Express" website.
