Millions along the eastern seaboard are bracing for hurricane Irene as the storm barrels toward New York.The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane warning for New York City — with the storm center expected to pass over the city around 10 am.
Mass transit systems across the region are shut down — and bridges and tunnels into and out of New York City are beginning to close.
NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg said "the time for evacuation is over," and encouraged all city residents to stay indoors and stay away from windows.
