Citi: Here's The Real Reason 24 People Get Arrested At One Of Our Branches

Citibank Public Affairs issued the following statement regarding today's incident: "A large amount of protesters entered our branch at 555 La Guardia Place around 2:00 PM today. They were very disruptive and refused to leave after being repeatedly asked, causing our staff to call 911. The Police asked the branch staff to close the branch until the protesters could be removed. Only one person asked to close an account and was accommodated."

To be clear: no one was arrested for closing an account; we didn't lock people in our branch - the police decided to close the branch; and we didn't ask for anyone to be arrested -  that is a police decision.

UPDATE: 24 Arrested At Citibank; Dramatic Video Shows Woman In A Suit Getting Arrested

Today some Occupy Wall Street marchers went directly to banks.

According to Alex Silverman of CBS New York, 17 24 were arrested for trespassing inside the LaGuardia Pl. Citigroup location. Another 2 were arrested outside for disorderly conduct.

This idea of being more confrontational with banks will help the protesters get more attention, but going to random retail outlets, and being a nuisance inside the part where the ATMs are is going to be pretty ineffective.

Several people have pointed out that the purpose of going to the bank was to withdraw accounts (as a protest) so characterizing the entry there purely as a demonstration does not seem to be accurate.

This video of a women in a suit -- who may or may not have been there to protest -- is making the rounds is also pretty dramatic.

WATCH: A Man Gets Arrested For Throwing A Hot Dog At Tiger Woods

EARLIER

A man who charged toward the seventh green at the Frys.com Open and threw a hot dog at Tiger Woods was arrested today.

From the AP:

Woods was about to putt when it happened. Players said the bun fell well short of where Woods was standing, and the hot dog went onto the green. Woods resumed his putting as if nothing had happened, although he missed the putt.

The man's name has yet to be released.

Tiger finished the tournament at -7, nine back of the current leader.

Will These Two Videos Absolve The Arrested Brooklyn Bridge Protesters?

Last night we reported on the 700 Occupy Wall Street protesters who got arrested for marching on and obstructing the Brooklyn Bridge.

Some have apparently claimed entrapment by the police (who encouraged them to walk on the road), but the people we talked to last night mostly suggested that the police merely stood by and watched, not encouraging them, but not stopping them either.

So far we've seen no evidence of police actually encouraging protesters to go on the road, but there are videos that show police walking in front of the protesters, as they go up onto the road.

This isn't the same as encouraging them to go on the road, but on the other hand, you could see why people in a crowd would think that going on a bridge is kosher if the police are calmly walking in front of the crowd as they go up the road.

Here are two videos. The first, via Andrew Krucoff, is very short and shows the police clearly leading the way at the very start of the protesters entering the bridge.

The second video is longer, and doesn't show the moment of entry, but goes a little further in terms of the police walking in front of the protesters.

Anyway, we're curious your take. This doesn't look like entrapment to us, but it seems that if the police were going to throw a net around 700 protesters once they got to the middle, there's little reason for the police to be at the front of the pack entering the bridge.

Manny Ramirez Was Arrested In Florida Today

  x You have successfully emailed the post. TMZ.com is reporting that Manny Ramirez has been arrested in Florida. Witnesses told TMZ that Many was removed from his house in handcuffs after an "altercation" with his wife.

Witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez was taken out of his Weston, Florida home at around 7 PM ET in handcuffs.  We're told Ramirez' wife was in the house.  Two witnesses tell TMZ Ramirez and his wife were involved in an altercation.

Manny retired earlier this season rather than face a 100-game suspension for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. It was his third positive test. Manny would have been eligible to return from his suspension on July 31.

Manny signed with the Tampa Bay Rays this past off-season, but only appeared in five games before his retirement. He was 1-17 with no home runs and a single RBI. He finished with 555 career home runs, 14th on the all-time list.

Report: Manny Ramirez Arrested In Florida After Alleged Domestic Incident

Former baseball star Manny Ramirez has been arrested in Florida.

He was taken into custody after an alleged domestic dispute with his wife, according to TMZ.

Obama's Uncle Arrested In Massachusetts On DUI Charge

An uncle of President Barack Obama was arrested last week on drunken driving charges in Massachusetts, the Associated Press reports. 

Onyango Obama allegedly failed to stop at an intersection, nearly hitting a police cruiser, and failed a field sobriety test. He is being held by immigration authorities.

A source tells CNN that Onyango Obama, a half-brother of the president's father originally from Kenya, "was not legally in the United States and has been previously ordered removed from the country."

After his arrest he reportedly told officers "I think I will call the White House."

The White House did not comment on the 67-year-old Obama's case.
