FED CONSIDERING 3 OPTIONS FOR NEXT ROUND OF EASING

x You have successfully emailed the post.

bernankeThe WSJ's ace Fed reporter Jon Hilsenrath says the Fed is considering 3 options for further easing at its two-day meeting September 20-21.

They are:

So called "operation twist." Extending the duration of the Fed's bond portfolio by selling the short-end and buying more long-dated bonds, to push the end of the curve even lower.Another possibility is to reduce the interest on excess reserves that banks hold with the Fed as a spur to hold fewer reserves and lend more money. Finally, the Fed might use even clearer language to emphasize that it will hold rates very low for a long time.

Round Two: Linda McMahon To Launch Second Senate Bid In 2012

Former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon, who dumped $50 million of her own money on a failed Senate bid in Connecticut in 2010, is preparing to announce that she will again run for Senate next year, according to The New York Times.

Citing two Republican sources, the Times said that McMahon will announce her candidacy in the coming week.

Last year, McMahon ran unsuccessfully to replace retiring Sen. Chris Dodd, ultimately losing to then Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. McMahon, who had never run for office before and who had little name recognition statewide, utilized her robust fortune to quickly build a formidable campaign operation and win the Republican primary, beating out former Rep. Rob Simmons.

In the general election, McMahon started off as a huge underdog in deep-blue Connecticut, but she considerably closed the gap between herself and Blumenthal amid allegations that Blumenthal had overstated his military service during the Vietnam War. However, the waning days of the campaign saw McMahon's popularity plummet, and Blumenthal wound up winning by a comfortable margin.

McMahon will now be running to fill the vacancy that will be left when Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) retires at the end of his term.

The contest for the Democratic nomination is already underway, as former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz and Rep. Chris Murphy have both formally declared their candidacies.

European Social Media Powerhouse Wikio Changes Name And Focus, Raises Big Round

x You have successfully emailed the post. Wikio Group, the European social media powerhouse, has a big announcement this morning. It's changing its name and focus and is raising almost $25 million.

Wikio is a rollup of social media properties by Pierre Chappaz, who previously sold price comparison engine Kelkoo to Yahoo for over $400 million.

The company started out as a Digg-like aggregator but it seems that, as in the US, the aggregator model never broke past a niche appeal to bloggers and tech early adopters. Wikio also acquired Overblog, a popular free blogging service, and announced a plan to start a Demand Media-like product.

Now Wikio is changing its name to Ebuzzing, the social media marketing company it bought and which brought in the lion's share of its business. Ebuzzing brings together brands and bloggers for advertising and promotions. It seems that Wikio (now Ebuzzing) is turning itself into a social media advertising network.

The pivot was probably at least partially brought on by Google's search algorithm revamp, which cut Wikio's traffic in half.
