REAL LIFE SUPERPOWER: This Kickstarter Project Wants To Help You See Through Objects

  x You have successfully emailed the post. Jon Rodriguez addresses human vision as a problem. We only see in two dimensions -- what would 3D vision be like?

His Kickstarter project, Voxel Vision, aims to design a system that lets humans see "within and behind solid objects within any virtual world."

In a practical sense, Rodriguez writes that his system could enable surgeons to "see the entire interior volume of a patient," police officers to "see within rooms and behind walls to avoid an ambush," and cell biologists could even "visualize the entire interior of a cell."

It sounds like black magic, but Rodriguez has already raised more than $3,500 of his $6,000 goal. (A donation of $3,000 will fetch you the Voxel Vision hardware before it lands on the general market.)

10 Lessons We Can Take From People Who Lived Through The Depression

It isn't difficult to see shades of the Great Depression in the Great Recession, and in today's volatile economy. High unemployment, staggering debt, and stocks that -- well, The New York Post put it best on its August 10th cover.

Still, the hardship of the late 1920s and the 1930s has yet to be replicated on such a grand scale. The 25% unemployment rate was a reality back then. But corners were cut, ends were met, and the generation that lived through it still stands as a testament to getting past tough times.

Some of the men and women of the Great Depression are still around today, and perhaps it's time to turn to them for inspiration.

Here's a list of 10 ideas that were formed during that era that may help us recover, as well as remind us that hey, it could be worse.

Here's What New York City Looks Like Right Now As Irene Passes Through

Hurricane Irene is passing through New York City right now.

NY1 is reporting heavy rains around various parts of the city and high waters along the Hudson and Coney Island. 

I took a walk around Brooklyn Heights earlier and while there are a few small trees down, many people are out walking their dogs.  Over here it mostly it just feels like a heavy rainstorm except there are very few cars on the streets.

I snapped some pictures.

Here's what Manhattan looks like from the Brooklyn Heights Promendade.

And here is what Manhattan looked like last night around 5pm.

Meanwhile the East river is very high.  If you look closely you can see where it's risen past the barriers that separate it from parts of the Brooklyn Bridge park and Pier 6.

That's Governor's Island off to the left. In the distance you can sort of make out the Statue of Liberty

Parts of Brooklyn Bridge park have overflowed.

However, even a hurricane will not keep New Yorkers inside their (tiny) apartments.

Or from seeing to the needs of their dogs.
