New Sprint iPhone Owners Are Reporting Pitiful Data Speeds (AAPL, S)

Some Sprint customers have been reporting slow data speeds on their new iPhones since Friday.

MacRumors points to this thread on Sprint's own forums. It's full of anecdotal evidence of slow data speeds on Sprint when using the iPhone. A lot of the speeds reported are downright pitiful.

In some cases, other smartphones are able to achieve normal data speeds on Sprint from the same location, even though the iPhone can't.

On the other hand, other Sprint customers say data speeds are crawling on all devices, not just iPhones.

While the slow speeds don't appear to be affecting all Sprint customers, it seems like there are enough complaints floating around out there to raise a bit of alarm.

Even more evidence: Gizmodo did a very unscientific, crowdsourced speed test of several iPhone 4Ss on all three carriers. Sprint appears to be the slowest.

Are you experiencing slow data speeds with your Sprint iPhone? Let us know in the comments!

Google Voice For iPhone Pulled From The App Store Because It Keeps Crashing (AAPL, GOOG)

Google has pulled its Google Voice iPhone app from the App Store because the latest version keeps crashing, Engadget reports.

Google told Engadget that the app's latest update causes it to crash at sign in.

The app has been pulled from the store until the bug can be fixed. (Don't worry, if you already have Google Voice on your phone you can still use it.)

We've been having problems with Google Voice since upgrading to iOS 5. The app crashes almost every time we try to check our inbox. Still, the problem doesn't appear to be affecting everyone. We'll keep you posted once the bug-free version is live in the App Store.

Looks Like We May Be Stuck With Just An iPhone 4S After All (AAPL)

x You have successfully emailed the post.

The evidence continues to grow that Apple will only announce an iPhone 4S on Tuesday, a souped up iPhone 4 that has the same external design but a faster processor and other powerful internals.

9to5Mac discovered a mention of the "iPhone 4S" in the latest developer beta of iTunes. The reference also links to an image of the current Verizon version of the iPhone 4.

There's no mention of an iPhone 5 or any photos of a redesigned device.

It looks like Apple pulled the iTunes beta from its developer's page. We can't find it, and we're hearing the same thing from other developers on Twitter. We're still trying to confirm Apple removed it.

Head over to 9to5Mac to see the evidence >

UPDATE: Yup, it looks like Apple has removed the latest iTunes beta from its developer's site. We just tried to download it and got the following error:

Here's More Proof Apple's Building A Cheap 'Entry Level' iPhone 4 (AAPL)

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Gizmodo just posted some images of a brand new iPhone, codenamed N90A, from Foxconn's brand new factory in Brazil.

The pictures of the new iPhone don't look much different than a images of an iPhone 4, except this phone's model number is a bit different.

The iPhone in the images from Brazil is called the N90A, while the iPhone 4 we've been using for a year is called the N90.

Rumor has it that Apple's new iPhone, whether it be a true iPhone 5 or an iPhone 4S, is called the N94.

Just a few days before Apple's big iPhone announcement in Palo Alto, this would seem to be confirmation that Apple's producing another round of iPhone 4's, perhaps pricing them at $99.99 or less and including only 8GB of internal storage.

See below for the full-sized image, via Gizmodo.

France Telecom CEO: iPhone 5 Coming October 15, I Think (AAPL)

Stéphane Richard, the CEO of France Telecom, told reporters yesterday, "If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October."

France Telecom carries more iPhone data traffic than any carrier other than AT&T in the world, so it should know a thing or two about Apple's plans.

WHOA: Did This Accessory Maker Just Leak The iPhone 5 Design? [PHOTOS] (AAPL)

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Case Mate, a company that makes accessories and cases for smartphones, just posted a bunch of product pages for iPhone 5 cases.

And they hint at a major, iPad 2-like redesign. BGR was the first to discover the new cases.

However, it seems like these cases are purely concept. Case Mate's iPhone 5 page cites a bunch of rumors and reports, so it seems like the company went ahead and based its designs on speculation as opposed to official blueprints from Apple.

We've spoken to iPhone accessory makers in the past who told us it's very rare for Apple to give this kind of early access to a new device's design.

And posting a bunch of renders before the phone launches? That would never happen unless there was some sort of major mix up.

Check out the photos below and judge for yourself.

iPhone Quickly Becoming Powerful Sales Tool--Lowe's Just Bought 42,000 Of Them

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Lowes LBST logo 432x239Lowe's decision to purchase 42,000 iPhones and to begin using a similar payment system as used in Apple Stores, is important as it is a another step in positioning the iPhone and iPad as powerful business tools that further blur the line between ecommerce and traditional retail.

Like in an Apple Store, checkout will no longer need to take place at a cash register, but rather anywhere on the Lowes sales floor via an iPhone that will process the sale and charge a credit/debit card.

Each Lowes store will receive 25 iPhones to process payments and answer customers’ questions. Lowe’s will also roll out a web app called MyLowe’s that will allow customers to look up wide range of information regarding products and warranties and also plan home improvement projects.

Using mobile devices in this way is not revolutionary and Lowes is simply following other retailers like Home Depot (which gave employees Motorola Inc. handheld devices last year) and Old Navy into the fray.

But it is an extremely important area of growth for Apple going forward and one that some money managers have already identified as a key driver of the stock in 2012 and beyond.

The San Francisco Police Department Is Launching An Internal Investigation Regarding The Search For The iPhone 5 (AAPL)

x You have successfully emailed the post.

The San Francisco Police Department is conducting an internal investigation regarding the the questionable search of a man's home for a missing iPhone 5, reports SF Weekly.

We previously reported on the incident when it was suspected that Apple employees were impersonating San Francisco police officers. It later came to light that Apple employees were accompanied to the house by the SFPD, who waited outside while the search was conducted.

From the SF Weekly's report:

"The incident has raised questions about police collusion with Apple, particularly since no official record of the incident was made by the officers involved. Questions also persist about whether Apple employees might have misrepresented themselves as police officers, which is a crime in California, as in most states."

The SFPD has very little to say to illuminate the matter, but if you're interested, check out SF Weekly's article.

Apple Wants To Hire Two Security Guards To Prevent Losing Another iPhone Prototype (AAPL)

x You have successfully emailed the post.

Following last week's case of the missing iPhone 5, Apple is looking for two product security guards that will make sure future Apple prototypes don't fall into the wrong hands.

9to5 Mac says there's a new job posting from Apple requesting two experienced security guards. The job description says the guards are responsible "for overseeing the protection of, and managing risks to, Apple’s unreleased products and related intellectual property."

Reports from the lost iPhone 5 prototype last week say Apple employees entered the home of the man they suspected of having the device.

iPhone Virtual Reality Viewer

by Edwin - on August 18th, 2011

The iPhone is able to do a whole lot of stuff – not just over the screen itself, but you can also use it to control remote controlled helicopters as well. This extreme versatility that had never been seen before in any phone prior to it has made it a hugely desirable handset, so you can more or less expect the frenzy that will surround the iPhone 5's release. Well, for the moment, you might as well as add another job description to the already long list on the iPhone 4's resume – the iPhone Virtual Reality Viewer.

Yes sir, this unique device will work with the iPhone, rolling out immersive, three-dimensional viewing experiences. You will need not spend anything more than the $49.95 asking price since you will take advantage of free downloadable applications that will use the iPhone’s accelerometer, allowing the 3D environments within to move when the iPhone is moved.

You wear the iPhone Virtual Reality Viewer just like a pair of binoculars, where a couple of finger holes are located at the bottom so that you can access the smartphone’s touchscreen display. 3D movie trailers aren’t the only way to keep yourself entertained with this – you can also use it to play a smattering of interactive games. It will play nice with the iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPhone 3G/3GS, and 2nd/3rd Generation iPod touch.
